Project updates

Construction update: October 2026

Construction continues to progress well at Thorpe Marsh, following the project’s first full year of work on site.

Since construction began in September 2025, we’ve completed major groundworks, drainage and cable works, preparing the site for the installation of the battery energy storage system (BESS).

Our latest drone footage shows how much the site has changed over the past year and the progress being made as we move into the next stage of construction.

What’s happening next?

Electrical works are continuing and preparations are underway for the installation of key equipment.

Specialised equipment will begin arriving at Thorpe Marsh later this month, with further deliveries as construction progresses.

We’ll keep the local community updated, including ahead of any deliveries that may affect local roads.

Construction update:
July 2026

Construction continues to progress well, with key milestones being achieved across the site.

Cable trough installation for the cables that will connect the battery units across the site, along with surface drainage works, is nearing completion, preparing the site for the next phase of construction. The next stage will see the installation of the battery units, together with the associated electrical and safety equipment.

One of the next major construction activities will be the installation of the underground 400kV electricity cable. This high-voltage cable will carry electricity between the battery energy storage system (BESS) and the existing Thorpe Marsh substation, connecting the project to National Grid’s electricity transmission network. The cable is expected to arrive on site in August 2026.

By the end of May, the project team had safely completed more than 156,000 hours of work without a lost time incident, demonstrating the continued focus on health and safety throughout construction.

Construction update:
February 2026

Work on our project is progressing well, despite the poor weather we have all experienced over the autumn and winter.

From 10 September 2025, we began “cut and fill” works involving pulverised fuel ash, the waste material left over from the power station.

This involves carefully moving and reshaping material within the site to prepare the ground for the next phase of construction.

These works have been completed and were carried out in line with all relevant environmental and safety regulations.

From 1 January 2026, we commenced electrical works on site. This includes installing cables and other electrical infrastructure needed for the development. We will continue to manage activities carefully to minimise disruption.
